Online Franchise and MLB The Show 18

For the online areas of the game, we spent this year focusing on our technology. We knew we had to prioritize the stability and speed of our online infrastructure for MLB The Show 18.

As such, Online Franchise mode didn’t make the cut this year.  This was not an easy decision to make and we understand some of you will be disappointed with this change, but we believe focusing on continuing to improve our online performance was the right priority for The Show 18.  With the major technology change this year it wasn’t possible to just leave in the previous mode without alteration.

Please know that Online Franchise fans are not forgotten and every new year offers an opportunity to evaluate our plans.

Thank you for understanding.

As someone who's played MLB the show religiously since it's inception and really enjoyed dd last year I think the decision to scrap online franchise is a big mistake. I'm sure there's a large percentage of the show community who live for online franchise, I know many and was once one of them. We'd much rather have an online franchise mode where we can play competitively vs friends then batting stance creator, uniform cards, bobbleheads or any other micro transaction/unnecessary digital items who aren't players. Although it may be too late this year, please reconsider.

I am very disappointed, loved the game and I do play all game modes. I enjoy DD but it doesn’t hold my interest like online franchise. I don’t have the means to spend money on buying stuff for a team nor do I have the time to sit a grind against a computer to unlock stuff, nor would I want to because playing the computer isn’t fun and isn’t what I buy the game for. I understand why DD is popular, i see why it’s fun to most and I do enjoy it. But online franchise is important to so many people. I’m in a 30 man league that has been together for multiple years. We play 4 seasons a year and we have all became friends because of this game. I played baseball all my life and in college and baseball Itself brings people together, this game brought people together. We had our teams picked and excited to play. I know it’s too late to bring it in for 18 but I beg you to have it in 19, I’d love to see it updated but even if it’s not I loved it how it was and had no problems with it. I love dealing with free agency, trades, injuries, having to work with a team that isn’t all diamonds, there’s so much to it. Please see all these comments and respond by doing the right things and bringing it back for all these loyal people in 19. Thank you.

I am disappointed with this announcement coming in just a short time before the new game releases. There probably has been time to let the online league environment know about the decision that has been made. If you all had done that, I believe this amount of feedback would not have been as negative. With the short notice, I believe that it gives a greater backlash and many will probably ask to get a refund from Gamestop and not get the new game.

Every year, there are quite a lot of Online League franchises getting everything setup with signing up for the online leagues on league websites, agreeing to rules, phone call meetings, message boards, and everything else. With this notification, everyone has waisted there lives on this with there not even being an online league franchise mode in the new game.

I just ask that you all are able to continue the online franchise mode in 2017 throughout the year if you all can't add that mode to the new show 2018 game. Thank you.

I never really played online Franchise so it doesn't effect me, but hopefully they will offer refunds to those who pre-ordered and are now wishing they hadn't due to this unexpected change. If they had eliminated DD I would sure want my money back.

    “Batting stance editor?” “Check”

    “rain delays?” “Check”

“online franchise?” “Oh no we ran out of time on those two features no one asked for.”

Find out how and when you can cancel an unwanted pre-order.

If you have paid for pre-ordered content on PlayStation Store but have changed your mind about the purchase — you can request a refund. PlayStation Store refunds can be issued for pre-ordered content, as long as the request is made before the release date, or within 14 days of purchase, and the content has not started to download or stream.

Please note, if you have started to download the main part of the order, you will not be able to request a refund.

Yeah, this is terrible. I was actually loyal to the game that caused so many issues for me and my online community of franchise players. I'm no longer purchasing The Show. Sole purpose for me and a majority of the three leagues I'm in was for the Online Franchise. Now, just before release and after plenty of preorders later, you tell us there is no online franchise. This was a terrible way to go about this. A year's notice would have been appreciated, but I get it...it doesn't matter to the developers. You've lost my support. I'll just stick to MLB 17 until you eventually cut the servers.

Unfortunately, I seen the writing on the wall and mentioned to my friends many times, I am betting they discard online franchise because it was already becoming too depreciated since they spent no time on improving it.  Well, I guess I get to save $60 this year and let the kids have sole possession of the PS4.  It was a good year or two, but since they sold out to only improving modes that make continuous money, which only the suits above the devs care about, I can only hope another company picks up the MLB license and offers a similar mode in the future to play with my friends.  Back to pc gaming only.

MLB the Show and Ramone Russell, #unfollow

    Good luck everyone
