Online Franchise and MLB The Show 18

For the online areas of the game, we spent this year focusing on our technology. We knew we had to prioritize the stability and speed of our online infrastructure for MLB The Show 18.

As such, Online Franchise mode didn’t make the cut this year.  This was not an easy decision to make and we understand some of you will be disappointed with this change, but we believe focusing on continuing to improve our online performance was the right priority for The Show 18.  With the major technology change this year it wasn’t possible to just leave in the previous mode without alteration.

Please know that Online Franchise fans are not forgotten and every new year offers an opportunity to evaluate our plans.

Thank you for understanding.

“Thank you for understanding” haha as if this community could actually understand. Everyone’s acting like they cut it for batting stance creator and retro mode but they cut it because the servers are not good enough and so they can make it semi-decent for next season. Now the online franchise is out here acting like they actually matter to SDS’s profits.

You guys need to chill. Lol Online Franchise looked the same the last two years. Do none of you realize how massive of an overhaul this game will be compared to ‘17? I can guarantee it will be back in ‘19 and that will probably be one of the major focuses. Gameplay is fixed. Servers are fixed. This will be the best baseball game ever made. By far. By the way, the real competition is in DD.

No, we are paying customers whose favorite game mode has been removed, AFTER leaving it in a stale, because the focus was on DD Whales and the desire for several quick dollars.

Go collect cards, and shell out more cash to this group of sell-outs

Actually bro I spent most of the year on television mode so that's why my average is so low. And with that setting I couldn't get past all star sok that shows how competitive it is. Plus, u Actually prove my point by saying I bat .265 because its better competition in dd, so harder to have a higher BA. Lol thanks.

We appreciate the transparency! I do love online franchise but I agree, it was not a pleasant experience with how archaic the game mode felt at times. I hope online franchise comes back better than ever next year.

This was (FAR AND AWAY my favorite thing about The Show...This is BS to hear there will be no online franchises. I bought a PS4 SIMPLY because Xbox's 2k series license expired in 2013. I am beyond frustrated, our group of guys already had a AN ENTIRE LEAGUE setup with each of our 25 teams picked....I was literally counting down the days until March 27th...

I think there is a flaw in how you guys are seeing who plays what modes most often. None of the online franchise games actually count towards any "record" so I feel like you guys have no idea how popular the online leagues really are. Its so frustrating to think you guys want to "focus" on MY PLAYER and that corny stuff. Unbelievable man. I will and I know plenty of others who will simply keep playing 17' where we can actually play online leagues...I can not believe this seriously. (Example, my profile record says I played 40 games, it has no collection of my hundreds of online league games played) and think about that for every users profile, it’s only counting DD.

I think they are focused on appeasing the critics who rate the game, who spend a few days playing the game and than making their YouTube video or magazine review...the reviewers have no idea how massive and important this side of the game is to us.

Why wouldn't they have just copied and pasted '17 online franchise mode into The Show 18 if '17's mode would continue to work with their new server architecture? What I'm getting at is - is there any confirmation that old servers will continue to be available to '17 users once '18 goes live? Infrastructure, to the best of my knowledge, is the actual server hardware. The cost of running and maintaining servers is not cheap and I have a difficult time believing they're going to keep the old hardware plugged in and turned on and eating money in addition to the new servers. And if '17 still runs on the new hardware, then how on Earth is the excuse they provided for the removal of offline franchise acceptable?

Even just throwing a patch where us ‘who didn’t make the cut’ could play the same game w/ updated rosters would satisfy many people.
